Here is a sneak peek of a living room design that I am currently working on. After visiting South Africa, the owners brought back handcrafted items like hand-beaded Maasai necklaces and blown out ostrich eggs. The owner also owns a gorgeous cowhide painted in zebra stripes, which was purchased off of Etsy. The owners wanted to create a lived in space that was inspired by their trips to Africa and my goal was to design a room that was inspired by modern lines, antiquities, and ethnic flare.
The sofa and armchairs, by Lee Industries and CR Laine, have straight, modern lines and will be upholstered in comfortable and relaxed linen fabrics. The cocktail and console table also have a modern touch with slim tapered legs but are both finished in distressed paint techniques. The bold zebra rug will lay atop a minimal and neutral vintage Turkish rug, which will create depth and lovely interest.
What I love about this room is this juxtaposition of the modern and traditional decor, such as the antique inspired campaign side table and the sleek Bryant chandelier. Together, items like these create a transitional space to showcase some of the owners favorite travel finds.
